How we can help

At Lanarkshire Counselling & CBT Centre, we understand that everyone’s circumstances are different. You may be struggling with a specific difficulty, experiencing a number of challenges at once, or simply feel that things have become difficult to manage.

Counselling provides a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what you are experiencing. Together, we can explore the thoughts, feelings, behaviours and experiences that may be affecting your wellbeing and work towards developing greater understanding, coping strategies and positive change.

You don’t need to know exactly what is wrong before seeking support. Sometimes, simply having the opportunity to talk with someone who will listen and understand can be an important first step.

01

Anxiety

Anxiety can affect both your mind and body and can sometimes make everyday situations feel overwhelming. You may experience persistent worry, racing thoughts, tension, difficulty sleeping or a feeling that something bad is going to happen.

Counselling can help you understand what may be contributing to your anxiety, recognise patterns that keep it going and develop practical strategies for managing anxious thoughts and feelings.

02

Depression

Depression can affect much more than your mood. You may experience persistent sadness, exhaustion, loss of motivation, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating or a feeling that things will not improve.

Talking therapy can provide a space to explore what you are going through without judgement and begin to understand the thoughts, experiences and circumstances that may be contributing to how you feel.

03

Panic

Panic can feel frightening and overwhelming. A panic attack may involve a racing heart, breathlessness, dizziness, shaking, chest discomfort or a strong sense of fear or loss of control.

Counselling and CBT can help you understand the relationship between physical sensations, thoughts and behaviours during panic, while developing strategies to manage these experiences and reduce their impact on your life.

04

Low Mood

Everyone experiences periods of feeling low, but when low mood persists it can begin to affect relationships, work, motivation and everyday life.

Counselling gives you an opportunity to explore what may be behind these feelings, make sense of difficult experiences and identify ways of gradually moving towards a more positive and manageable future.

05

Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem can influence the way you see yourself, your abilities and your place in the world. You may be highly self-critical, doubt yourself or feel that you are not good enough.

Therapy can help you explore where these beliefs have come from and how they influence your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Over time, you can develop a more balanced and compassionate understanding of yourself.

06

Confidence

A lack of confidence can prevent us from doing things we would like to do, expressing our needs or believing in our own abilities.

Counselling can help you understand the barriers affecting your confidence and work towards building greater self-belief, resilience and confidence in everyday situations.

07

Loneliness

Loneliness is not simply about being alone. You can feel lonely even when surrounded by other people. It can affect your mood, confidence, relationships and sense of connection.

Therapy provides a space where you can talk openly about your experiences and explore what may be contributing to feelings of isolation, while considering ways to strengthen your relationship with yourself and others.

08

Family Issues

Family relationships can be complicated. Conflict, communication difficulties, separation, changes in family circumstances or long-standing patterns can all have an impact on our emotional wellbeing.

Counselling can provide a neutral and supportive environment in which to explore difficult feelings and relationships, understand different perspectives and consider healthier ways of communicating and responding.

09

Bereavement

Losing someone can be one of the most difficult experiences we face. Grief can affect everyone differently and may bring sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, loneliness or a sense that life has changed completely.

There is no single way to grieve and no fixed timetable for recovery. Counselling can provide a safe space to talk about your loss, process difficult emotions and begin to find a way of moving forward while continuing to carry the importance of the person or relationship you have lost.

10

Stress

Stress can build gradually and may eventually begin to affect our physical health, emotional wellbeing, relationships and ability to cope with everyday responsibilities.

Counselling can help you identify sources of stress, recognise patterns in how you respond to pressure and develop healthier ways of managing difficult situations and emotions.

11

Suicidal Thoughts

Experiencing thoughts about suicide can feel frightening, isolating and difficult to talk about. You do not have to face these feelings alone.

A confidential therapeutic space can allow you to talk openly about what you are experiencing and explore the circumstances, thoughts and emotions contributing to your distress.

If you are in immediate danger, believe you may act on suicidal thoughts, or cannot keep yourself safe, please contact emergency services or attend your nearest A&E department. Counselling should not replace urgent or emergency support.

12

Trauma

Traumatic experiences can continue to affect us long after the event itself has passed. Trauma may influence how we think, feel, behave and relate to other people.

You may experience anxiety, intrusive memories, difficulty sleeping, emotional numbness, heightened alertness or a sense of being unable to move beyond what has happened.

Therapy can provide a safe and supportive environment to begin making sense of your experiences at a pace that feels manageable. The therapeutic process can help you understand how trauma may be affecting you and develop healthier ways of coping.

You Don’t Have to Face It Alone

Whatever has brought you to consider counselling, you don’t need to have all the answers before asking for help.

Sometimes the first step is simply having someone listen.

At Lanarkshire Counselling & CBT Centre, we aim to provide a supportive, respectful and non-judgemental environment where you can talk openly about what is happening in your life.

If something is affecting your wellbeing, get in touch to discuss how we may be able to support you.
